Udayanga Weeratunga in courts once again

Sri Lanka’s Former Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga, who was arrested and remanded on money laundering charges is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate today.
He was arrested by the officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department on Friday at the Katunayake International Airport after arriving from Dubai.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake remanded the former Ambassador until today after he was produced in courts.
Udayanga Weeratunga was arrested by the CID over investigations into the case related to the purchase of four MiG27 aircraft for the Sri Lanka Air Force in 2006.
Initial investigations into the case was launched by the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division under the Money Laundering Act.
Warrants were issued for his arrest by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court and the Interpol over the failure to appear before Court on several occasions.
