Sinharaja destruction: UNHRC accepts complaint

The Centre for Environment and Nature Studies says the United Nations Human Rights Council has accepted the complaint lodged on the 16th of September pertaining to the destruction of the Sinharaja Forest Reserve.
Speaking to NewsRadio Secretary of the Centre Wakandawala Rahula Thera said steps will be taken outside of Sri Lanka in order to protect the world heritage site.
The thera said several roads are being constructed in Sinharaja causing destruction to the forest reserve.
The venerable claimed that the public is being educated of the destruction adding that as the matter has not been addressed locally, the Centre sought the assistance of the UNHRC.
The thera added the Centre together with environmentalists and the public is working to protect the forest reserve.
