JVP says gazette on garbage undemocratic

The JVP says the gazette issued on the directives of President Maithripala Sirisena making garbage disposal an essential service by local government bodies is undemocratic.

Speaking to NewsRadio, JVP Parliamentarian Bimal Ratnayake said this violates the people’s right to protest.

MP Ratnayake charged the government of attempting to create more garbage dumps like that in Meethotamulla by using its power through the assistance of the armed forces.

The JVP Parliamentarian said it has been revealed that this was the same manner in which the former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa utilized his power to deploy the army and create the Meethotamulla garbage dump.

MP Bimal Ratnayake said the present government is using force to dump garbage in residential areas despite public opposition.
