20 more succumb to COVID; Death toll at 941

Another 20 COVID-19 related fatalities have been confirmed in Sri Lanka, raising the country’s virus-related death toll to 941.

The Director General of Health Services said in a statement that nine females and 11 males were confirmed to have died after contracting the novel coronavirus.

Accordingly, the nine female victims include, a 65-year-old from Kundasale, a 67-year-old from Panvila, a 72-year-old from Ambatenna, a 75-year-old from Kalutara North, a 75-year-old from Nauththuduwa, a 76-year-old from Polonnaruwa, a 78-year old from Maggona, a 79-year-old from Vavuniya and an 87-year-old from Gonapola.

The 11 male COVID victims include, a 60-year-old from Kelaniya, a 61-year-old from Bulathsinhala, a 63-year-old from Colombo 14, a 65-year-old from Neboda, a 66-year-old from Diyatalawa, a 68-year-old from Colombo 13, a 70-year-old from Passara, a 70-year-old from Gampaha, a 71-year-old  from Kalawana, a 73-year-old from Polonnaruwa and an 83-year-old from Ruwanwella.

According to the Department of Government Information, the deaths occurred between the 8th to the 15th of May due to COVID pneumonia and other health complications.
