20,000kg fish at Beruwala Harbour disposed after rotting

20,000 kilograms of fish, stored by fishermen at the Beruwala Harbour for more than a week, has been disposed after rotting.

The Chairman of the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation SWL Daulagala speaking to NewsRadio said a majority of catch at other harbours were purchased by the government and the private sector.

Daulagala said a large stock of mackerel fish however is still stored at the harbours.

The Chairman added the government is purchasing a kilogram of mackerel fish, that is canned, at Rs.110 while a kilogram is sold to the private sector at Rs.105.
