Leader of the House Minister Dinesh Gunawardena says the government has presented a Budget to fulfil the long-term goals of the country and the people.

Speaking during the debate on the second reading of the 2021 Budget in Parliament today, Minister Gunawardena said the public will be empowered through the implementation of the proposals included in next year’s Budget.

He said the previous administration was rejected by the public and voters granted a mandate to the President to ensure prosperity in the country.

Minister Gunawardena noted poverty is prevalent in the United States, Europe and several countries in Asia, and said Sri Lanka has taken several measures such as the Samurdhi programme to alleviate poverty.

He said through the Samurdhi programme, the government intends to empower the poor while continuing to provide concessions.

He said the country’s entire population will receive several benefits through the 2021 Budget.
