220 MPs complete the online registration

A total of 220 newly elected Parliamentarians of the Ninth Parliament have submitted their personal details through the Parliament’s ‘Online Registration System’.
The Secretary General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake has said due to the COVID–19 crisis, Parliament introduced several digital processes while the online registration system was one such initiative.
The Secretary General requested all MPs to submit their details by today.
When inquired by NewsRadio, the Parliament Department of Communication said although the timeframe granted to submit details will end today, the remaining MPs will be allowed to hand their documents in the next few days as well.
Director of the Department Shan Wijetunga said the online system was introduced for the convenience of Members of Parliament in order to submit information while reaming in their constituencies.
Meanwhile, the inaugural sitting of the Ninth Parliament will take place on Thursday.
The election of the new Speaker, swearing-in of new Members of Parliament and the appointment of a Deputy Speaker and the Deputy Chairperson of Committees will be held when the new Parliament convenes at 9.30am on Thursday.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is scheduled to present the new government’s Policy Statement at the ceremonial sitting of the ninth Parliament also on the 20th of August.
The President is scheduled to chair the Parliament sitting at 3pm.
