3 persons arrested with gold worth over Rs.10M

The Sri Lanka Customs has arrested three Sri Lankans who attempted to smuggle a stock of gold biscuits worth Rs.16 million from Singapore at the Bandaranaike International Airport.
The Customs said a female suspect was among the suspects.
The suspects, residents of Wattala, Kandy and Kotte, are 46, 50 and 56 years of age.
The trio has been identified as engaged in the business of selling imported products.
The two male suspects were in possession of 22 gold biscuits worth Rs.7.15 million rupees weighing 1.1kgs.
The Customs said the female was in possession of 3 gold biscuits worth Rs.1.75 weighing 300g.
The Sri Lanka Customs confiscated the stock of gold biscuits found in the possession of the suspect from Wattala while he was ordered to pay a fine of Rs.500,000.
The eleven gold biscuits found in the possession of the suspect from Kandy were also confiscated by the Customs while he was ordered to pay a fine of Rs.25,000.
Furthermore the three gold biscuits found in possession of the female suspect were confiscated while she was ordered to pay a fine of Rs.20,000.
