358 COVID-19 cases in & around Katunayake FTZ

A total of 358 persons employed at the Katunayake Free Trade Zone and staff of 28 factories, that do not fall under the purview of the Board of Investment, have tested positive for COVID-19 thus far.

Regional Medical Health Officer of Gampaha Dr. Migara Epa said 331 persons employed at 21 factories within the Katunayake Free Trade Zone have contracted the novel coronavirus thus far.

27 persons employed at seven factories that do not fall under the purview of the BOI have also contracted the virus.

Meanwhile, 18 cases of coronavirus have been detected from within the FTZ in the past the 24 hours. The Katunayake-Seeduwa Public Health Inspectors’ area confirmed 22 new COVID-19 cases.

NewsRadio area correspondent said a majority of the new cases are secondary contacts of Katunayake Free Trade Zone employees.
