491 COVID-19 patients detected yesterday

The number of coronavirus cases confirmed in Sri Lanka has increased to 19,771 following the detection of 491 COVID-19 patients yesterday.

The Department of Government Information said yesterday’s new cases were identified as close contacts of the Peliyagoda Fish Market cluster while four individuals were identified as returnees from Italy and a Turkish Airlines staff member.

Accordingly, the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster also increased to 16,252.

The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said 6,098 persons including 12 foreign nationals are currently receiving treatment for COVID-19 at 56 facilities across the country.

Yesterday, another 319 persons who contracted the novel coronavirus recovered and were discharged from hospitals, increasing the number of COVID-19 recoveries in Sri Lanka to 13,590.

480 suspected COVID-19 cases are also under medical observation at present.
