5 arrested over the Slave Island murder, remanded

The five suspects arrested over the death of an individual following a clash down Muttiah Road, Slave Island have been remanded till the 19th of August.

The order was issued by the Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court.

The victim was identified as a 47-year-old resident of Payagala who was employed as a Manager at a salon on Staple Street, Slave Island.

The individual had arrived at the salon in a three-wheeler with a female friend around 12:30am today.

The clash broke out when five individuals passing by the salon had verbally abused the female.

Police said the five suspects had then attacked the male and fled to Muttiah Road following which the duo tailed the suspects where another brawl broke out.

The male was admitted to a private hospital in Colpetty after sustaining critical injuries where he later succumbed.

The suspects, between the ages of 17 and 24, are residents of Slave Island, Kandy and Polgasowita.
