582 charged for violating traffic lane law in Colombo

A total of 582 persons have been charged by police for violating the traffic lane law in Colombo.
Police Media Spokesperson Superintendent of Police Ruwan Gunasekera said the charges were filed yesterday, following a two-hour operation within the city of Colombo. He said CCTV footage was also used to identify the perpetrators.
The Police Media Spokesperson said a fine amounting Rs.2,000 can be imposed on motorists for violating the traffic lane law. He said a first time offender found guilty in courts will be fined between Rs.2,500 and Rs.3000 while second time offenders will be punished with a fine between to Rs.3000 and Rs.10,000.
According to Police Media Spokesperson Superintendent of Police Ruwan Gunasekera a person found guilty in court for the third time will be fined between Rs.10,000 and Rs.25,000 for violating the traffic lane regulation.
