73 more persons test positive for COVID-19

Another 73 persons linked to the Minuwangoda cluster have tested positive for COVID-19.

The Department of Government Information said new infections include two from quarantine centres and 71 individuals identified as close contacts of the Minuwangoda cluster. Accordingly, the Minuwangoda cluster has increased to 1,972.

The number of coronavirus cases confirmed in the country has also risen to 5,427.

Following the development, the active COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka, for the first time surpassed the 2,000 mark.

Accordingly, 2,019 patients including 14 foreign nationals are currently receiving medical treatment for coronavirus at 17 hospitals across the country.

Meanwhile, earlier today, 10 more coronavirus infected persons recovered and were discharged from hospitals, increasing the number of recoveries to 3,395.

The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said four COVID-19 patients have been released from the Welikanda Base hospital, three from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, two from the Hambantota District hospital and one individual has been discharged from the Iranawila hospital during the past day.

255 suspected COVID-19 cases are also under medical observation.
