‘A lockdown will be imposed if the need arises’

State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control Sudarshini Fernandopulle says steps will be taken to impose a lockdown if the need arises in future.
Speaking at a media briefing today the State Minister said decisions will be reached after assessing the coronavirus pandemic situation in the country.
State Minister Fernandopulle said decisions to impose coronavirus restrictions were based on the situation of the pandemic and not due to political influence.
She assured that specialists of the Ministry of Health decided to impose isolation orders, based on epidemiological evidence.
The State Minister revealed that orders have been issued to Regional Medical Officers of Health to consult with the Director General of Health Services and impose travel restrictions if required in relevant areas.
