Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has advised officials to table a report on the LNG agreement that has allegedly resulted in a Rs.90 billion loss to the government.

Speaking at a discussion today the Minister said the LNG agreement was due to be implemented during the term of the former government.

It was uncovered that two thirds of the contract for the agreement was not awarded to a government run organisation, thereby resulting in an Rs.90 billion loss to the state.

The Ministry of Power and Energy said although a local firm submitted a higher bid for the tender, authorities allegedly granted the project to a Chinese company who submitted lower bid.

Minister Mahinda Amaraweera called for a detailed report over the agreement while another round of talks will take place on Thursday to discuss the matter in length.
