Another arrested over the 231kgs of heroin

Another suspect, involved in smuggling the 231kgs of heroin worth Rs.2.7 billion, has been arrested in Yatiyantota.
Police Media Spokesman Superintendent of Police Ruwan Gunasekara said the 44 year old is the owner of the multi day trawler used to pass on the stock of heroin to the two suspects arrested over the incident in Beruwala yesterday.
The third suspect was in possession of Rs.1.5 million at the time of his arrest.
The Police Media Spokesman said the suspect had jumped into the Kelani River in a bid to outmanoeuvre Police. However two Police officers successfully nabbed the suspect.
The multi day trawler was seized by Police last evening while Police launched investigations to identify and arrest the owner of the trawler.
Court yesterday granted approval to detain and question the two suspects arrested in Beruwala with the stock of heroin.
The raid was carried out when the two were transporting the stock of heroin via boat.
Police said this was the second largest stock of heroin that was seized in the country’s history.
