The Court of Appeal has dismissed the writ petition filed by Riyaj Bathiudeen, the brother of MP Rishad Bathiudeen, calling for an order preventing his arrest.

The petition was taken up for consideration today before judges Mahinda Samayawardena and Arjuna Obeysekera.

The Acting Inspector General of Police, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in Charge of the Criminal Investigations Department and the CID Director and four others were cited as respondents in the petition.

The petition claimed that attempts are underway to arrest him once again and is requesting an order to prevent such a move.

Riyaj Bathiudeen was arrested in April and was detained over investigations into last year’s Easter Sunday attacks.

He was released on the 30th of September after CID investigations revealed he was not linked to terrorist activity.
