The Court of Appeal today ordered the Central Environmental Authority to take steps to re-export the remaining 242 waste containers that were brought down from the United Kingdom.

The Appeals Court also ordered Attorney General Dappula de Livera to take legal action against the companies that facilitated the import of the 263 containers.

The order was issued when the case filed by the Centre for Policy Alternatives demanding the re-export of the containers was taken up for hearing today.

The orders were issued by the Appeals Court Chairman judge AHMD Nawaz and judge Sobitha Rajakaruna.

21 of the 263 containers carrying waste, brought down in 2017 using forged documents, was re-exported in late September.

Controversy arose in 2017 pertaining to the stock of containers being brought to Sri Lanka.
