“Budu Puth Suraksha” insurance launched

The “Budu Puth Suraksha” health insurance scheme which covers 15,000 Buddhist monks, was launched today at the Temple Trees.
The event was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The programme was conducted by the Ministry of Buddha Sasana and Cultural Affairs.
The Insurance scheme is expected to be continued by funding from the State together with the Budhdha Sasana Fund and the donations from well-wishers.
Marking the beginning of this programe, insurance policies were handed over to several monks.
The Prime Minister earlier instructed officials to grant Rs.40 million to the insurance programme from the Buddha Sasana Fund.
The Prime Minister’s Media Division said the government, in addition will grant Rs.50 million to the Fund.
