A Cabinet Paper proposing promotions for Police Constables, who have not been promoted for a period of more than 10 years, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers yesterday.
Co-Cabinet Media Spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardena said the proposal was presented by State Minister of Defence Chamal Rajapaksa.
He said many Police Constables had continued to serve in the Police force, without being promoted for an extended period of time.
Accordingly the Spokesman said the Cabinet of Ministers approved a Cabinet Paper proposing said Constables, to be promoted to the ranks of Police Inspectors, Sergeants or other ranks.
He also revealed that nearly 50 cases were filed at the Supreme Court calling for promotions, adding that the current initiative to grant said promotions was therefore significant.
