Chief suspect in drug racket to be detained

Court today granted permission for the Minuwangoda Police to detain and question a chief suspect involved in the drug racket operated by underworld gang member ‘Tile Chaminda’, till the 25th of September.
The order was issued by Minuwangoda Acting Magistrate Nayana Punchihewa.
‘Tile Chaminda’ is currently in remand custody on charges of heroin racketeering with Police Narcotics Bureau officers.
Minuwangoda Police said the suspect who maintained a shop in Minuwangoda, was reported missing following the arrest of ‘Tile Chaminda’.
Police said the 46-year-old suspect, a resident of Henpitagedara, Marandagahamula, was involved in the heroin racket in various ways.
The suspect was arrested based on a tipoff received by the Minuwangoda Police claiming the suspect was in disguise following the arrest of ‘Tile Chaminda’.
