AG ordered to file charges against Ranjan

The Supreme Court has issued orders to the Attorney General for charges to be filed against State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake, over the second instance of Contempt of Court, within a period of one month.

Accordingly the case will be taken up for hearing on the 30th of July.

State Minister Ramanayake is charged with making a statement pertaining to the fundamental rights petitions filed over the dissolution of Parliament during the 52 day coup, prior to a verdict being delivered by the Supreme Court over the matter.

The charges were taken up for hearing before Supreme Court Judges Jayantha Jayasuriya, Vijith Malalgoda and Murdu Fernando today.
