The controversial doctor attached to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital appeared before the Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court for the first time this morning.
The doctor was presented by officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department.
He was produced in Court on charges of accumulation of wealth via illegal means and allegations of sterilising female patients during caesarean surgeries without their consent.
For the first time in the case, Deputy Solicitor General Thusitha Mudalige appeared on behalf of the Attorney General during this morning’s hearing.
Making submissions, the Deputy Solicitor General said following certain orders issued by Court on the 27th of June, on-going investigations into the doctor have become complex.
Accordingly Thusitha Mudalige said through the B report, the Department of the Attorney General is expected to present several requests pertaining to on-going investigations.
Kurunegala Magistrate Sampath Kariyawasam then informed that such matters should be presented before Court.
Subsequently the hearing was adjourned until afternoon, after the Counsel representing the accused failed to appear in Court.
