The Civil Society and Trade Unions Collective says certain clauses of the Counter Terrorism Bill should be amended.

Speaking to NewsRadio Convenor of the Collective Saman Rathnapriya said the concern was directed to President Maithripala Sirisena in writing.

Saman Rathnapriya however said he is personally not against the introduction of a new Act against terrorism.

The Convenor however said such Act should not curtail Trade Union activities.

He said although the Counter Terrorism Bill is being introduced to repeal the Prevention of Terrorism Act, it also intends on curtailing trade union activities.

Saman Rathnapriya stressed that certain articles in the proposed Bill violate the provisions included in the Trade Unions Ordinance.

And therefore he requested the government to revisit the proposed Counter Terrorism Bill and allow trade unions to engage in its activities without any restrictions.
