The JVP has stressed the country requires a ruling system centralised around the parliament instead of the Executive Presidency.

Speaking at public rally held in Nugegoda yesterday, Party Leader Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the Executive Presidency has many negative impacts.

He remarked that humans lived in tribes at the dawn of mankind, adding the leader of the tribe made all the decisions of the tribe and implements executive power.

The MP noted after the year 1997 Parliament became an institution where the government had to sit and stand according to the President’s orders.

He stressed the most important thing is that the country should be led towards governance based around parliament and not the Executive President.
