Court issues warrant for Ranjan’s arrest

The Gangodawila Magistrate’s Court has issued a warrant for the arrest of Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake.
NewsRadio Court correspondent said the arrest warrant was issued to the Director of the Colombo Crimes Division.
Attorney General Dappula De Livera earlier instructed the CCD to obtain an arrest warrant for MP Ranjan Ramanayake and to produce him before Court.
The Attorney General informed the CCD that legal action can be taken against MP Ramanayake on charges of violating the Constitution and interfering with the functions of the judiciary.
The Attorney General issued the directives following the consideration of the documents and evidence directed by the Police pertaining to ongoing investigations over the controversial phone recordings seized from MP Ramanayake’s residence.
The Attorney General had informed that sufficient facts had been tabled to name MP Ranjan Ramanayake as a suspect in interfering or attempting to interfere in judicial proceedings of Judges Padmini Ranawaka, Gihan Pilapitiya and Dhammika Hemapala.
The Attorney General instructed the CCD to record a statement from MP Ramanayake under the Criminal Procedure Code, table facts and produce the Parliamentarian before the Gangodawila Magistrate’s Court.
