AG asked to advice on Sarath Weerawansa’s case

Court today ordered a reminder to be issued to the Attorney General seeking his advice over the case filed against the brother of Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa, Sarath Weerawansa and five others, over the misuse of state vehicles.
The order was issued by the Colombo Fort Magistrate. The suspects are accused of misappropriating vehicles leased by the Presidential Secretariat during MP Wimal Weerawansa’s tenure as Minister of Housing, Construction and Common Amenities.
Accordingly the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division informed Court that the final report pertaining to the matter was presented to the Attorney General on the 5th of August 2017.
The FCID however informed that the Attorney General is yet to direct his advice over the matter.
The case is scheduled to be taken up for hearing once again on the 12th of July.
The brother of MP Wimal Weerawansa, Sarath Weerawansa, Parliamentarian Jayantha Samaraweera, Mohammed Muzammil, Senarathne De Silva and Hemantha Perera were named as suspects in the case.
