COVID-19 cases rise to 2,816, recoveries up to 2,514

The number of coronavirus cases recorded in the country increased to 2,816 after one individual tested positive for the virus today.

The Department of Government Information said the individual is a returnee from the UAE, who was undergoing quarantine measures.

Meanwhile another 75 individuals who contracted the novel coronavirus recovered and were discharged from hospitals during the past 24 hours.

The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said the number of COVID-19 recoveries reported in the country increased to 2,514.

64 persons were released from the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre, while four persons each were discharged from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases and the Welikanda Base Hospital and three persons were discharged from the Minuwangoda Base Hospital.

291 persons who contracted the virus continue to receive treatment while 45 suspected cases remain under medical observation.
