Health units say there is no clear indication that the coronavirus has spread to the community outside of the Minuwangoda cluster.

Speaking at a media briefing at the Government Information Department Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said the direction of the coronavirus can be determined over the next few days.

Dr. Samaraweera said 4,488 coronavirus positive patients have been reported in the country, including 1,053 from the Minuwangoda cluster, adding that a majority were from the Gampaha District.

He said the spread of the virus has increased due to Gampaha being a commercially active and busy area.

Therefore Dr. Samaraweera said the maximum possible PCR tests are being conducted in order to determine the extent of the cluster and mitigate its effects.

Dr. Samaraweera added the hospital system is being widened in order to accommodate COVID-19 patients, adding that 2,000 additional beds have been set up as a precaution.

The Chief Epidemiologist said safety at hospitals has been secured and urged the public to seek medical attention for any illness without fear.
