The Ministry of Health says rumours circulating that COVID-19 can be transmitted via the consumption of fish, are completely false.
Acting Director General of Health Services Dr. S. Sridharan said there is no scientific evidence to prove that the coronavirus can be transmitted to individuals via cooked fish.
Based on the assumption that coronavirus could remain on any surface, the Health Ministry directed the public to be mindful when storing or preparing fish and avoid touching one’s face, while also requesting to thoroughly wash utensils with soap before and after use.
The Acting Director General of Health Services added there was no requirement to close fish stalls, and claimed such vendors must strictly maintained health guidelines such as social distancing.
