COVID-19 Kosgama escapee found in Borella

The COVID-19 positive individual, who escaped from the Kosgama Salawa Coronavirus Treatment Centre, has been found in Borella.

Acting Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said he was found on the 13th floor of the Sahaspura Housing Complex in Borella.

The DIG said the Police and health units visited the location and escorted the individual to hospital under strict health directives.

He said the individual reportedly took a bus from Kosgama and travelled to Orugodawatte and boarded another bus to Borella.

DIG Ajith Rohana said the individual violated quarantine regulations by fleeing hospital.

The DIG added legal action will be taken against the individual under the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance upon him completing the treatment and quarantine process.

The 26-year-old individual, linked to the Peliyagoda fish market, had escaped the facility this morning.

The individual, a resident of Sedawatte, was identified as a narcotics abuser.

He was transferred to the facility from the Colombo National Hospital around 1.30 this morning.

After refusing to provide information, the individual had escaped the treatment centre this morning.
