Criminal inquiry to begin into Aranthalawa

The Attorney General has directed the Acting Inspector General of Police to record statements of victims of the LTTE attack on Buddhist monks in the Aranthalawa massacre in June 1987.
The Attorney Generals Coordinating Secretary State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said the Attorney General also ordered the IGP to commence criminal investigations and submit a progress report in two weeks.
33 Buddhist monks, mostly novice monks, and four civilians were killed by the LTTE on the 2nd of June 1987 in Aranthalawa, Ampara.
A bus carrying Buddhist monks and civilians was ambushed and killed by the LTTE.
