The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Economic Revival and Poverty Eradication Basil Rajapaksa says the government has no intention of importing crops that can be cultivated in Sri Lanka.

A discussion was held at the Temple Trees yesterday regarding the contribution of Provincial Councils to the national programme to uplift the rural economy.

The programme will be implemented under four committees, Social Infrastructure Development Committee, Livelihood Development Committee, Local Product Industry Development Committee and the Rural Infrastructure Development Committee.

Basil Rajapaksa said the committees consisting of Cabinet and State Ministers will meet with Provincial Council officials before the next budget to study public issues and the contribution of Provincial Councils in maximizing functions of the committees.
