Debate on 20A draft bill to take place on 21st & 22nd

The debate on the draft bill of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution will take place on the 21st and 22nd of October.

The Parliament sittings will commence at 10am and will conclude at 7.30pm.

The decision was reached when the Committee on Parliamentary Business convened this afternoon.

The Speaker of Parliament is due to announce the verdict of the Supreme Court pertaining to the constitutionality of the articles in the draft bill of the 20th Amendment in Parliament on Tuesday.

Chief Opposition Whip Parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella had earlier called for a five-day debate over the draft bill.

The Committee Stage of the bill will commence on the 22nd at 7.30 pm post the debate.

Meanwhile, the Committee also decided to debate three regulations under the Sri Lanka Export Development Act on the 20th of October from 10am.

The adjournment debate by the government will be taken up from 4.30pm to 5.30pm the same day.
