The Presidential Commission of Inquiry that investigated the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks has recommended that the Attorney General look into the possibility of filing criminal charges against Former President Maithripala Sirisena.
The recommendation cites that charges should be filed on grounds of failing to fulfil his responsibility and prevent the Easter bombings.
The Commission in its final report has also recommended steps to be taken against Former Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara and the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police of the Western Province at the time Nandana Munasinghe under the Penal Code.
The Presidential Commission claims that the main reason behind the Easter attacks is the failure to take action to prevent such an incident despite the availability of sufficient information pertaining to religious extremism.
