Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekara says police investigations related to the main suspects of the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks have concluded.

Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Minister Weerasekara said they have identified 32 main perpetrators following investigations.

He said eight investigative files have also been directed to the Attorney General.

The Minister noted that the delays have occurred as the Attorney General did not want to take forward legal proceedings until he receives the report compiled by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry on Easter Sunday attacks.

He noted the President or the government cannot file legal action and it is the duty of the Attorney General to take legal proceedings.

The Minister of Public Security also noted that the Attorney General cannot file charges without deliberating all sides.

Minister Sarath Weerasekara said therefore the government cannot be blamed for the delay to take forward the Easter Sunday attacks investigations.
