Final rites of the 15th COVID-19 victim held

The final rites of the 15th COVID-19 casualty in Sri Lanka, who passed away at the Kuliyapitiya Base hospital, was performed at the Kuliyapitiya public cemetery today.

The funeral proceedings were carried out at the Kuliyapitiya cemetery at 2.30pm.

Speaking to NewsRadio, Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Uthpala Gunasekara said the final rites was performed while adhering to health and quarantine guidelines.

Sri Lanka’s 15th COVID-19 fatality was confirmed this morning, when an individual receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Kuliyapitiya Base hospital passed away.

The deceased was a 56-year-old male, a resident of Kuliyapitiya, who was suffering from both cardiac and kidney diseases and was admitted to the hospital on the 14th of October for treatment.

The patient had subsequently succumbed to extensive complications from the two diseases.

PCR tests conducted on the individual had returned positive, confirming the patient was infected by the novel coronavirus.
