Former Pugoda OIC jailed over death of youth

The former Officer-in-Charge of the Pugoda Police Station who was interdicted and arrested over the death of a youth while in custody has been remanded till the 27th of October.

The 20-year-old passed away at the Ragama Hospital on the 12th of October, while in Police custody.

Acting Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said stern action will be taken if an officer is deemed to have acted in a manner that is not in line with the law, regarding suspects in Police custody.

The DIG noted several investigations were conducted into the death of the youth, following which a Police Sergeant and seven others were arrested and remanded over the incident.

He added following further investigations the OIC of the Pugoda Police Station at the time of the incident was also arrested.
