Minister of Power Dullas Alahapperuma says the government has planned to construct a power plant in each district that generates electricity with garbage.

The Minister speaking at an event today said, the first plant of its kind will be established in Hendala in the Gampaha District in February.

The Power Ministry said 10MW will be added to the National Power Grid daily with 700 tonnes of garbage.

Minister Alahapperuma said the power plants will generate electricity through garbage that is collected daily from each district.

The Ministry said garbage, that has become a major concern in Sri Lanka ecologically, will be made a source of strength to the economy as a useful component.
