Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa says Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa has given a public assurance that he will not sign the proposed Millennium Challenge Cooperation agreement.
Speaking at a rally in Polonnaruwa today, MP Weerawansa said the MCC agreement is only an attempt of the United States to own parts of the country.
The MP claimed MCC agreement Sri Lanka $480mn to allow the US to use 18.2% of the country’s lands as they wished.
He noted the US will take over 1.2 million acres of land from Trincomalee to the Colombo Harbour and will establish a 15km buffer noting Sigiriya will also fall under the special economic corridor of the US.
MP Weerawansa further claimed if the $480mn was converted into rupees, one acre was being sold for mere Rs.29,137 and 37 cents while one was being Rs. 180 and 10 cents.
He reiterated that Gotabaya Rajapaksa had already stated that when he is appointed the President, he will not sign the MCC agreement but will scrap it instead.
