Govt. responsible for children of expatriates-PM

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa says it is the responsibility of the government to ensure children of expatriates are protected.
Speaking at a function at the Temple Trees the Prime Minister said children of expatriates will be granted scholarships, adding that students who sit the Grade 5 Scholarship will received Rs.20,000, students sitting the Ordinary Level Examination Rs.25,000 and students sitting the Advanced Level Examination will also be granted a scholarship.
The Premier noted that the registration fee of local expatriates will be used to provide scholarships.
Premier Rajapaksa claimed that around 1.6 million Lankans are engaged in employment overseas and therefore stated that the government has a responsibility towards protecting their children.
The Prime Minister added Lankan expatriates largely contribute to the country’s economy.
