Government to issue permits for chainsaws

President Maithripala Sirisena says a new circular will be issued in the near future making it mandatory to obtain permits for chainsaws used for felling.

The President said accordingly those who own chainsaws should take necessary methods to obtain permits from the 15th of February to the 1st of March by visiting the nearest Police Station.

Meanwhile all Police Stations will be required to maintain a register of those who own chainsaws.

The Head of State noted those who fail to obtain the permit to use such machines will be arrested.

The President was speaking during an event at the BMICH today.

Meanwhile President Sirisena called on all state officials to work towards making this year a turning point for the country’s economy.

The Head of State stressed if the country’s economic development which currently stands at three to four percent further declines due to political reasons the country cannot achieve development.
