‘Govt. will not cancel child’s education right’

State Minister Janaka Wakkumbura says the government will not cancel a child’s right to education by closing schools.

Speaking at a media briefing in Embilipitiya the State Minister claimed the government could not close schools continually, since the Ordinary Level examination must also be conducted in the same manner as the Advanced Level exam was held.

The State Minister requested teachers trade unions to support the government in operating schools by adhering to health and safety guidelines, instead of demanding schools to be closed.

He also noted citizens were concerned with students being infected, and had disregarded the future of children.

In the event any concerns, the State Minister said the Principal can take a suitable decision to close schools.

State Minister Wakkumbura however requested parents to refraining from send children to school if they exhibited symptoms such as a cough or cold.
