The government has refuted claims that it is attempting to take away the civic rights of selected individuals based on a report compiled by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry on Political Victimisation.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Minister Ramesh Pathirana claimed the report consisting of over 700 pages was submitted to the President in English on the 1st of February.
The Minister added it took over three weeks to translate the report and was tabled before the Cabinet of Ministers yesterday.
Minister Pathirana said the report will most likely be tabled in Parliament this week, and it will also be directed to the Attorney General to take necessary action.
He added relevant legal action will be taken by the Attorney General’s Department.
Minister Pathirana said there will be no political interference by the government to take away anyone’s civic rights or in the legal proceedings.
