The Secretary of the Ministry of Health Major General Sanjeewa Munasinghe says the country’s hospital system is still able to cope with the active coronavirus cases.

Speaking to media the Major General said the health sector was prepared to handle the vast threat of the coronavirus.

He noted that the 2,222 cluster is a large number for a country such as Sri Lanka at a given time, adding that workplaces, boarding houses, hostels and behaviours of individuals contributed to the spread of the virus.

Major General Munasinghe said the health sector had selected hospitals to direct patients in the event large numbers were reported.
