Hospitals treating COVID-19 patients increased to 21

The number of hospitals allocated to treat COVID-19 patients in the country has been increased to 21.

Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi said the number of PCR tests conducted daily has also increased to 8,000.

Speaking at a media briefing today, the Health Minister said despite many countries directing infected persons to self-isolate, Sri Lanka will continue to treat patients at hospitals.

The Minister added laboratories have also been revamped to increase daily testing rates.

Minister Wanniarachchi on a separate note, vowed not to misuse the newly gazetted regulations pertaining to containing the spread of the coronavirus.

She stressed the Police will not misuse provisions within the gazette and will only focus on enforcing regulations pertaining to COVID-19 mitigation are adhered to.
