Chairman of the Elections Commission Mahinda Deshapriya says it is the responsibility of all politicians and parties to ensure the elections are conducted during the accepted periods.
Speaking at the 30th anniversary of the establishment of election monitoring body the People’s Action for a Free and Fair Election the Chairman of Elections said the Provincial Council Election must be held prior to any other election.
The Chairman noted democracy, elections, free and fair elections have been interpreted according to how politicians and the public perceive it while election are held at times determined by politicians.
Deshapriya meanwhile charged that certain election monitors stand as monitors in the morning and then represent political parties as observers during vote counting.
The Chairman stressed the Presidential Election cannot be held until the 10th of November adding till then the fight to ensure the conduct of the Provincial Council Election will be continued.
Chairman of the Elections Commission Mahinda Deshapriya furthermore claimed he will not step down from his post prior to the conduct of the election.
