Impeachment process against President underway

United National Party Parliamentarian Chaminda Wijesiri says the process of drafting of the Impeachment Motion against President Maithripala Sirisena has commenced.
When inquired by NewsRadio, MP Wijesiri said the UNP Backbenchers are hoping to obtain signatures of MPs from next week.
The MP stated the Impeachment Motion had been scheduled to be presented in Parliament following last year’s October 26th coup however noted that no person had been able to achieve the task due to various issues.
MP Wijesiri expressed hope that all MPs will sign the motion against the President for violating the Constitution and over the Easter Sunday attacks as he had been holding the Defence Ministry portfolio.
He added although there had been a concern pertaining to the number of MPs needed to present an Impeachment Motion in Parliament, the UNP Backbencher said he will continue his struggle within and outside of Parliament.
Parliamentarian Wijesiri revealed that he had commenced drafting the Motion and hoped to present the draft to other MPs to sign during the next Parliamentary session.
United National Party Parliamentarian Chaminda Wijesiri added the motion will be presented to the relevant Party Leaders and Opposition Members as well.
