Inquiry into Army officers alleged inaction

The Sri Lanka Army has launched a special inquiry into a video circulated on social media platforms that allegedly depicts an Army officer failing to control violent clashes.
Issuing a statement, Director Media of Sri Lanka Army, Brigadier Sumith Atapattu said attention of the Military has been drawn to a video clip where a person dressed in uniform similar to that of the Army failed to defuse the situation while a group of violent saboteurs were in action in Thummodara.
The Army Media Director said a special inquiry has been launched to identify the person suspected to be a military member.
He said if the inquiry confirms that the person in question happens to be an Army member, the Military will take all necessary disciplinary action against the said member.
Brigadier Sumith Atapattu requested the public to inform the Special Investigation Unit of the Military Police, if anyone possesses information pertaining to the incident.
