The report compiled by the specialist committee appointed to look into a series of tremors in several areas of Kandy recently was handed over to Minister of Environment Mahinda Amaraweera today.

The report cites that the tremors must be scientifically, investigated continuously.

The report includes four recommendations.

The committee recommended the deployment of a team to compile a detailed geological and structural map of the area, the enforcement of a long-term plan to observe possible tremors and the observation of dolomite mines in Aluthwatte and related structural cracks.

The committee also recommended that a group of students and selected individuals be trained to report tremors and for a model in this regard to be provided.

The committee also recommends the installation of seismic component devices in tanks adjacent to Kandy to be linked to the National Data Centre of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau.

Tremors were reported recently in Ambakotte, Haragama and Anuragama in Kandy.

A three-member specialist committee left for Kandy last Thursday to investigate the tremors.
